Reed Krakoff Standard Leather Clutch

As much as I like the Reed Krakoff totes, they are way to massive to actually use. The smaller pieces like this, however, work for me. This clutch is so chic and minimalistic, perfect as the one clutch in your wardrobe, if that’s how you roll. It is serious enough to attend big to do’s but you can wear this with jeans and even nice summer shorts for vacation evenings out. The simple hardware closure is so simple it’s sublime. The only other detail is the textured leather which add so much richness. There is also this little coin purse that I love, it is a typical kiss closure but the inside has card slots (around $200). I didn’t like the leather it came in but I’m hoping for Spring there are other fabrication options. Reed Krakoff Standard Leather Clutch for $490.

Prada Denim and Crocodile Hobo

Prada makes some of the most gorgeous bags I have ever seen. This? Not one of them. I am all for denim and crocodile. But when the denim is on my handbag I can’t help but think I’ve jumped in a time machine and headed to a time when Mariah was an actress and starring in “Glitter.” Of course, this Prada bag doesn’t look like a pair of jeans made into a bag, but if you’re classifying a color as “denim” there probably isn’t going to be a great outcome. The shape of the bag is so outdated, and the frayed fringe edges are creeping me out. A crocodile handbag is always nice, but this bag only has a small, crocodile twist closure, which is why I am confused as to why this is a “Denim and Crocodile Hobo.” Guess you can’t win ‘em all! for $1,495

Lanvin Sweet Dora Patent Crossbody Bag

Sweet Lordy Lord, this bag has the wrong name cuz Dora to me does not sound as refined and sophisticated as this bag insists (yes, it is due to the explorer by the same name). The subtle color blocking, the clean engineering and HOLY WOW, that tortoise-like clasp with gold hardware is blowing my insane little mind – it is the perfect icing on the cake. The straps are adjustable for crossbody or shoulder and unlike most crossbodies, this one actually looks great as a shoulder due to the east/west shape. You can go from quiet ladylike cool to raging party goer with a simple sling of the strap. I love the new direction Alber Elbaz is taking us!! At Neiman Marcus for $1747.

Givenchy Black Tote with Red Straps

Is this bag simple? Yes. Is even the name a little un-creative? Indeed. Do I think it’s as cute as a puppy in a duck costume? Yes, yes I do. The Givenchy Black Tote is as functional as it is fantastic. The red straps totally make this worth selling some old jewelry your ex gave you that is sitting in the bottom of your jewelry box in a knot right now looking ugly and full of secrets. This black tote also comes with a longer black strap making this a perfect accessory to carry on a trip. It’s sizeable enough to fit wallet, phone, snacks and that copy of Sports Illustrated, Swimsuit edition that you buy every year to torture yourself and sit on the plane and study the bodies of these creatures to finally decide airbrushing has really gotten out of hand and you feel sorry for these girls being in the magazine in the first place. Then proceed to throw back a Yoo-Hoo and snacks and feel good about the fact that you are a real woman, not a swimsuit alien from a Brazilian different planet to be gawked over.Functional and cute, this would be an easy wear to throw something on and grab. It’s casual but classy and I would certainly get a lot of miles out of it. But you will pay for those miles. This red handled beauty is $1,660 @Elyse Walker

Smythson of Bond Street iPhone and iPad Covers

I already love Smythson and now that they are taking care of my technology needs, the love has turned to sheer obsession. The colors, the quality and the function! Everything a girl can ask for! This iPhone case is great for those like me who don’t really want a case but need one because I’m clumsy (my phone seems to fly out of the car all the time). This case keeps it safe when not in use and simply slides out when I need it. Right now, it is available in this Ruby gem Damson but for the holidays, it will also come in pink magenta. Also for the holidays is the iPad cover in either a sleeve (as shown) or zip around design (see jump page), prices range from $280-$460 depending on style. I have been searching for the perfect iPad cover since I got the iPad and I settled for a very boring (and ugly) black cover just to tie me over. Well, I know what I want for Christmas. I am ordering the zip around ruby Damson immediately!! Damson iPhone case, pre-order for $155.

Fendi Fall 2011

Classical silhouettes resigned supreme in the bags at Fendi’s fall show. Overscaled in size and popping in bright colors, the handhelds featured nifty longer straps that made them instant cross-bodies. I love the roomy shape of the Fendi day bag for fall; it harks back to an iconic shape Fendi has shown since the days of the momma baguette. Also note the subtle scripted floral detail directly above the FF logo buckle; it adds an air of old world nostalgia to the bag. Offsetting this shape was a felt tote that, while certainly pretty, remains to be seen if will hold its shape due to the soft fabrication.

Dior Fall 2011 Bags

I know Galliano did not foresee his public meltdown or that this collection would be his swan song at Dior but I still can’t help being slightly disappointed by the lack of new bag styles. Dior’s Fall 2011 bag collection was mostly a re-issuing of past season styles in different colors – cherry brown, dark jade, candied apple red, pink snake, cerulean blue, and lilac ostrich. Pretty, yes. Exciting, no. Structured styles reigned supreme, in ranging from petite to imposing and perfect squares to elongated rectangles, with the interjection of a selection of chain-handled hobos and even a couple of bags that looked like no more than frothy dollops of fur. The Miss Dior in crocodile was notable, but it was the Granville in olive green with geometric red contrast stitching that slightly piqued my interest – finally, something I haven’t seen before! Even more interesting, though, was the fact that the atelier appeared at the close to take a bow. Perhaps there were no major statements bags, but a major statement was made: Dior is not Galliano.

Be & D Cameron Bag: Tall, Dark and Handsome

This isn’t a bag I would call “pretty.” It doesn’t exactly ooze glamour or sex appeal; and it certainly isn’t something I’d take with me for a night out. This is a bag I would call …handsome. This two-toned leather bag with gold hardware and ziptop closure is almost regal. You wouldn’t buy it for a fun weekend away with your friends to sample wine and eat bricks of cheese in the car. No, no, no, you would grab this when you are wandering around a museum taking in the arts, or for when you want to spend the day at a little corner café sipping espresso and catching up on your reading list (AKA all of Chelsea Handlers books and the Harry Potter series, they are just so good). The Be & D Cameron bag is classy, understated, and looks a little like a bowling bag, and I enjoy it.If you are feeling this one as well, pick it up at ShopBop for $895

Tod’s Cartella Medium Top Handled Messenger Bag: The Love Affair Continues

Each season, like clockwork, Tod’s steals my heart. This time around, it’s Tod’s “Cartella” bag. Where to begin? A blend of styles (a hint of doctor bag, part ladylike purse), you can carry it top-handled or messenger-style, take your pick. A bag 13″ wide is the most flattering and often most stylish size for anyone – short, tall, young, mature. It just works. Structured to perfection: it sits so perkily (on protective metal feet) and hangs off the wrist or shoulder with ease, while the large outer flap pocket adds interest and functionality. Did I mention this is perfect for summer? The color brings to mind pink sandy beaches and scoops of buttery ice cream. You can color me smitten. This is a “need, want, must have” situation. At Saks Fifth Avenue for $1,845.Pair with: Um, anything? But it would look (especially) lovely with 3.1 Philip Lim’s mouse-gray satin-twill blazer, double-breasted for a cool menswear look and in a color that brings out the “Cartella.” On Net-a-Porter for $675.

My Five Essentials: Featuring Bobbi Brown

I had the good fortune of meeting the inimitable Bobbi Brown over three years ago when I interviewed her. Lucky me: my allotted 30 minutes with the beauty/health/fitness guru became three hours because we couldn’t stop talking and laughing! I had been a fan since college – her lipsticks and no makeup-approach to makeup were life-changing – so when I saw that we were actually carrying matching Birkins – I knew it was a sign we’d be BFF (OK so that part was wishful thinking). Bobbi is a true champion of women. She raised three sons (one now at Stanford, thank you very much) while building her global empire. Her devotion to her family is only rivaled by her commitment to charity. Bobbi sits on the board of Dress for Success and is co-chairing this year’s gala, celebrating her twenty years with the organization. (Find out how you can help at Dress for Success here).Since that first “Birkin” moment, I have learned that, like me, Bobbi is the total Bag Snob. Late night e-mails between us discussibg bags are not unusual. So, read on to discover Bobbi’s five essential bags. You’ll want every one!Tote For traveling between home and the office, I use my monogrammed Goyard bag. It’s the perfect size — not so big that it’s overwhelming, but not so small that all you can fit are the essentials.TravelI never leave home without my hard-sided Louis Vuitton Travel Case. It’s small enough to take as a carry-on and I always pack my travel essentials, like EXTRA Moisturizing Balm and Concealer, so I look great when I get off the plane. TreasureI treasure my Celine bag– everything about it, from its boxy shape to the story behind how I received it. It was a gift from a very good friend of mine, which makes it even more special to me.TrendyThe Hermes Birkin is one of those bags that is classic, it never goes out of style and will always be an “it bag” in my eyes.ClutchMy Louis Vuitton Mini Pochette comes with my everywhere. It’s the perfect size for my iPhone and a lip gloss.

Miu Miu Appliquéd Metallic Leather Clutch: Boom, Boom, Pow!

Expect the unexpected: comic strips are the latest inspiration for the fashionable. (Something is in the air; MAC has super hero-themed makeup and a Wonder Woman remake is in the works). This starburst-covered, metallic bag is a frisky take on super-hero chic, as opposed to say, thigh-high boots or mega-thick, waist-cinching belts. It’s too gimmicky for my taste, especially shown with the matching Miu Miu skirt, but it’s definitely fun if you’re looking for a trendy conversation piece. All you need is a pair of roller skates and you’ll be the most powerful girl in the rink. At Net-a-Porter for $1,350.Pair with: Nude, cropped leather pants ought to toughen the kitsch bag up, without going over the top. Wear Zadig & Voltaire’s “Ava” style and get instant Parisian cool.On Net-a-Porter for $770.

Oryany Rafia and Leather Hobo: Leader of the Pack

This bag is such great fun for the style icon who doesn’t follow the crowd. A laid-back hobo with summer-worthy details – raffia-wrapped strap and sprinkling of fringe – Oryany has made a frugal snob find that speaks volumes to personal style. And those are usually the edgiest girls. (Remember years ago when everyone was surprised to spot Kate Moss wearing high-street staple Topshop?) I love a bag that’s got loads of its own spunk without being showy. Details like the asymmetrical zipper make it. And who can ignore the molten color? Orange is hot for summer. Wear it with khaki to brighten up a casual day look, and whatever you do, wear it with your own sense of style. At Neiman Marcus for $398.Pair with: A personalized cuff helps establish independence; Jessica Kagan Cushman’s resin zodiac cuffs come with constellations for each astrological sign, for $85.

Alexander McQueen “Obi Bow” Clutch: What’s in a Name?

Since inheriting the imposing task of preserving Alexander McQueen‘s legacy, Sarah Burton has continued to surprise and delight. Instead of doing the expected and continuing releases of bestsellers, she has come up with new designs appealing to McQueen die-hards (that would be me), simultaneously garnering a new audience.McQueen was famed for a sense of gothic, dark femininity, and Burton is not imitating the master but expanding his vision through an innate sensibility: this bag is a prime example. The name “Obi Bow Clutch” sounds like it would be absurdly girly, even verging on something in which one might tote feminine hygiene products. Thankfully, in Burton’s expert hands, the result is intelligent and progressive. The bow is not even close to a poofy dollop; it’s a hard, twisted piece of bag sculpture (much like an actual obi). A large and functional clutch, the shiny gold hardware imbues just enough glitter. Covetable and wearable: Burton knows what a woman wants. At Alexander McQueen for $950.Pair with: A bootie that is also angular and atypically feminine, such as Dolce & Gabbana’s macrame lace open-toe ankle boots. On LuisaviaRoma for $848.20.

Antik Batik Enzo Studded Leather Shoulder Bag: My Summer Grab Bag

We all are aware that crossbody bags will be clutch come summer, but which one to choose? I am currently in the market for a crossbody large enough that I can bring it to work on the days I plan on playing afterwards, but is also something I can mix with many outfits, so when I am wearing a skirt and a fitted top, it doesn’t look too casual, and when I’m in a laid back summer dress, it doesn’t look too formal. I think the Antik Batik Enzo studded leather shoulder bag may be my answer for my summer needs. It is a perfect mix of laid back style and rock worthy edge. Black leather will go with almost anything, and the studs give it a pop that will keep people guessing as to whether or not I’m actually Rihanna, and just look reallyyyy different in real life. I could wear this with a fitted black dress to work and with cutoffs and a tank on the weekends. The double-chain and snake-effect leather shoulder strap adds sexiness to this little guy, and anyone who knows me is aware that I love a good tassel. It is a ziptop closure, which is something I require on almost all of my everyday bags.Another plus to this purchase is that even on my revised “Emma is going to save lots O money so one day she can buy a castle in the South of France” budget, I wouldn’t feel too guilty about scooping this up.$585 at Net-a-Porter

Swash Zebra Jungle Scarf Bag: A Beautiful Nightmare

This bag is so ugly. So why I can’t I take my eyes off it? It’s a scene from the menagerie of my nightmares. Where to begin? Scary rabid animals have been printed on silk to look as if they’ve been aggressively chained to the handles. The fire-eyed snake, snarling sharp little teeth, could have been hatched in a nuclear waste dump. The grotesquely abstracted zebra stripes more closely resemble the long, nasty tails of opossums, pretty much the most despicable animal ever. And perhaps most strangely, those chains might actually be trombones. Needless to say, the overall outcome should repulse me, but instead I’m intrigued. There’s definitely a lure in the perverse. And while it’s hardly attractive, I’m oddly attracted to it. I’m not about to carry this surreal handbag myself, but I would give props to the woman who does, for her boldness and strong sense of self. At Barneys New York for $595.Pair with: Since your letting your devilish side out, a red dress is in order. Narciso Rodriguez‘s crew-neck sheath dress is clean and classy. At Barneys New York for $1,595.

Roberto Cavalli Doctor Fringed Distressed-Suede Bag: Handbag of Horrors

What on earth are you going to do with this? Unless you’re a mummy, you’re going to look ridiculous. It’s like an abandoned house where the chandeliers collect so much dust and spider webs that the debris starts to dangle down in a most foreboding way. (I went to a bar like that in New York – McSorley’s Old Ale House. It’s the oldest bar in the city and you can tell because they’ve NEVER cleaned anything in there.) This bag looks so dusty and dingy, I want to shake all the junk off of it. Even the shoulder strap has fringe, so you look like you’re sporting some sort of sad, mop-like cape when you carry it. The gray hue looks more like a filthy white, so it just adds to the macabre effect of this ghostly, ghastly creation. If this bag hasn’t scared you yet (maybe you’ve got a major thing for both haunted houses and fringe) just take a gander at the price: $3,785. Time to run away screaming! On Net-a-Porter for $3,785.

Bottega Veneta “Nero” Crocodile Soft Clutch: Clutch It If You Can

This is the clutch to retire all other clutches. Where to begin? The texture, the shape, the functionality, the versatility or the total outcome of overwhelming elegance? Clutches are usually way too dainty for me; I’m always in search of one I can wear without a ball gown (I actually don’t own any clutches that could be paired with a ball gown. Or a ball gown, for that matter!) This “murse” (man purse) shape and appeal – strong lines and no fuss – is sexy and cool, but a super-flat silhouette means no old-school machismo here.I don’t need to tell you that crocodile is an exquisite skin, but the effect of woven croc makes “high-level luxe” sound like an understatement. And it’s as functional as a clutch can be – that woven panel is a pocket, the ultra-long zipper pull doubles as a wristlet, and there is an additional pocket on the flap’s underside. There is actually nothing wrong with Bottega Veneta‘s bag. Except, perhaps, the price. Yes, it’s a million dollars, but can you fathom ever falling out of love with such a treasure. At Bottega Veneta for $8,300.Pair with: If you haven’t cut up your credit cards after your well-worth-it purchase, spring for a menswear-inspired blazer. The relaxed fit and feminine sheen of Theyskens’ Theory‘s midnight-blue satin jacket is boy-meets-girl perfection. On Net-a-Porter for $660.

Reed Krakoff Gym Bag I & II

I think it’s safe to say Reed Krakoff‘s Gym Bag (in two sizes) is not really meant for the gym. Unless you are both Gym & Bag Snob and require a $4,500 python bag to tote your pink boxing gloves. I like the streamlined simple totes and $790 for the smaller leather version is quite reasonable. Great for work or weekends and yes, even the gym. I meet the coolest people on Twitter, many of whom have become my IRL friends (that’s social media talk for In-Real-Life). Samantha, who started out as an accessories editor for Vogue, was formerly the Fashion and Accessories Director for Niche Media – she scoured every city in the country for the coolest looks and hottest trends. Meredith Wendell Python-Trimmed Raffia Tote: Handle With Flair

Plain and simple: nothing beats a great, fun summer bag. Like Meredith Wendell’s cream raffia tote with black-tinged green python trim and yellow patent-leather handles! A simplistic bag like this could be benign, but it’s anything but. I love the pop of color against the raffia – just a smidge is all it takes to take ordinary to enviable. Serious skins – plus a bright turquoise plaque – bring a splash of exotic-luxe whimsy to raw earthiness. With a detachable cotton rope shoulder strap (if you can let go of those fabulous handles!), inside zip pocket, and red twill lining – another, and even more giggle-inducing, pop of color – this roomy tote is ideal for carrying around all of our summer necessities. When devil-may-care meets unquestionably simple, you get playful, practical, and classy: a perfect daytime tote! On Net-a-Porter for $550.Pair with: Never try to match baby-touches of intense color, unless it happens by divine wardrobe intervention! My Five Essentials Featuring Sasha Charnin Morrison, Author of Secrets of Stylists

Blogging has been the most rewarding professional career I’ve ever had, and it’s also brought incredible people in to my personal life. It’s hard to imagine meeting genuine friends over the internet, especially ones who become your confidante, cheerleader and a constant source of support and encouragement but that’s what happened when I met Sasha Charnin Morrison, Fashion Director of US Weekly and author of Secrets of Stylists: An Insider’s Guide to Styling the StarsSecrets of Stylists (for sale now on Amazon, order your copy if you know what’s good for your style).Sasha is a true original and her love of fashion is infectious (it’s not unusual to find us obsessing over bags and shoes at 2am together online!)- she attributes her fashion sense to her stepmother Jade Hobson (former Creative Director at Vogue under Grace Mirabella) who nurtured her fashion obsession at an early age. Sasha put in serious time as fashion director at Allure, Elle and Harper’s Bazaar and did the fashion show circuit globally 3 months out of the year. When she had her twins, she jumped ship to US magazine in order to stay in NYC with them.In her new book, Secrets of Stylists: An Insider’s Guide to Styling the Stars“Secrets of Stylists”– Sasha gives the inside scoop on being a celeb stylist and how to obtain your dream of being one. But even if you have no aspirations of being a stylist, you will be extremely entertained by her book as no one tells a story as well as Sasha! If you live in NYC, please stop by Sasha’s book launch party at Scoop tomorrow (Tuesday, May 3rd from 6-8pm) hosted by famed stylist Annabel Tollman. I will be there of course (I’m in it along with a few of my favorite bags!) and would love to have a glass of bubbly with you– rsvp for the party here!Jump to read Sasha’s favorite Five Essential bags (and then some, she added her own category!)–I am in love with the Thursday Friday bags! Hermes is out of their minds to for suing them to cease and desist. I mean, come on, I think WE ALL KNOW THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THIS AND THE REAL THANG?! It’s the perfect daily tote to keep an extra pair of shoes, change of clothes and anything else I need throughout the day running around with my twin boys. My color? Camel.I believe in trying to be chic and functional at all times, but it gets tough while traveling because baggage claim treats bags like they’re unwanted stepchildren! My Tumi rolley bags not only get me around in style, they take the abuse fabulously. I have two sizes, and working my way up to a 3rd. Love my Tumi Vapor small size in silver, extended trip in gold and can’t wait to buy the largest in black soon.Celine bigger black bag with a fox tail. (Which I already own). Celine casts a mysterious spell on me in regards to its bags. There is something refined and classic– not usually something I would gravitate to normally. But there’s always a twist of some sort– the shape, the color, the blocked color, the animal print. I love the construction of this particular bag because I am a sucker for a boxy tote bag! The fact that it has grown bigger makes me want it even more-I already have one, how many do you need?! As many as you can get your paws on. I also love the fox tail attachment.Torn: I love the Versace fringed insanity, the Valentino Rockstud in leopard (not included above), Louboutin snake with the bow and chain (but I’m not really a bow person) and crazy for Cavalli fringed hippie bag. That gorgeous Chanel brown bag. I don’t know what it does… but I want it, badly!Well. There’s only one. The McQueen Brittania Punk leather box clutch. It won’t matter what you’re wearing when you have this in your clutches!

Chloé Elsie Large Day Bag; Isn’t She Lovely?

This bag puts a smile on my face, and if you knew how crazy my life is right now, you’d know that is an accomplishment. Well done Chloé Elsie Large Day Bag. Who says money can’t buy happiness anyway. I would love to grab this pink and tan picture of perfection on a sunny spring day with a pair of girlie pumps and a sundress and go pick daisies. Chanel “Boy” Bags: You Think You Know, But You Have No Idea

When you hear the two words, “Chanel bag” – which is likely more often than we even notice – the last thing that comes to mind is “androgyny.” There is the “Mademoiselle,” the flirtatious interlocked-Cs, the quilted leathers and tactile chains. But “Boy”? This ground-breaking new collection of bags will change everything you think you knew about Chanel bags, and perhaps even the design house as a whole. The diehard Chanel purists will resist, but let me tell you: this is major. As major as the day Coco Chanel herself whipped a belt around her beau’s jacket, cinched it with conviction, and called it her own.The deliciously sleek “Boy” Chanel bag has crisp industrial hardware in distressed silver or bronze, so jarringly unlike the feminine clasps we know and love. It is produced in four sizes, ranging from a slick slide-handle clutch to a long-strapped purse to a large and regal north-to-south tote. Its palette of colors is delicate yet powerful: flat red, deep black, intense grey, lead green and brilliant ivory. Much like an actual boy himself – masculine, yes, but lacking in any coarse testosterone so his fineness and tenderness is maintained. Is androgyny the new femininity?

I was a busy bee this morning! Between making breakfast for the boy, packing his lunch of tofu & peas with pasta (his request– Tiger Mom brainwashing successful!) and getting him dressed for Kindergarten, I found time to shop on The ‘s MAJOR Ala?a sale. I even had to shop on the UK site as the US sale doesn’t launch until 11:30amEST. I got everything I wanted but the downside of shopping the UK site is the hefty duty and I have no idea how long it will take to get here but it’s Ala?a, totally worth waiting for! Gucci for UNICEF “Sukey” Tote: Sukey Saves the Day

Year after year, the House of Gucci has shown dedication in its support of UNICEF’s Schools for Africa project. This initiative, whose mission is to give needy African children the opportunity for a quality education, has been of great importance to Gucci for the past seven years. Starting in 2005, Gucci’s commitment to UNICEF has resulted in donations of over $9 million dollars, making it the largest corporate donor to the Schools for Africa project. Each year, 25% of the retail sales of a specially chosen item are donated to this meaningful cause, and this year is no disappointment. Creative Director, Frida Giannini, has taken the bestselling “Sukey” bag and designed an updated version. It features the enduring 1935 Diamante motif embossed on dark chocolate brown calfskin. A hand waxing technique gives the bag a vintage look, and with delicate hardware (and the ever-beloved insignia) it is both classic and contemporary. This is a carryall that works for everyone – and knowing a portion of your dollars are going to such a worthy cause makes it a fulfilling purchase. Gucci is putting their best foot forward for a fantastic organization by reinventing a classic, and I can’t think of a better way to show support than by wearing it on your arm! At Gucci from June 15, 2011-February 28, 2012.

Henry Beguelin Ruched Top Handle Hobo: My Hobo and Me

You can’t resist loving a good hobo bag. They are the easiest of all bag styles to tote around. They sit cozily at your side – there’s something comforting about the company, isn’t there? And it’s the ultimate in function. For all that easy function, the form can lean towards the repetitive side. How often do you find one that is totally unique and stands out?Thank you, Henry Beguelin! You have presented us with a super-exciting hobo (almost an oxy moron). I can’t even remember the last time I thought that about one. The ruched suede, contrasting handle doesn’t just jazz it up, it’s genius: in suede, it has traction to ensure it never slips off your shoulder. But the handle has a meager 3.5″ drop, which is disappointing to me because it doesn’t fit under my arm. I’m willing to let it slide, since the bag is so cool. At least the slouch of the bag gives it extra room so it will work for most.White’s the way to go: set against the brown handle, it gives the bohemian tinge a shot of polish, just as Beguelin’s bag will give your hobo options a shot of energy. At Neiman Marcus for $1,195.Pair with: Casual olive twill pants get a sleek makeover with a cropped length and tight fit. Check out J. Brand‘s “Agnes” pants, and enjoy Net-a-Porter‘s end-of-season sale!On Net-a-Porter for $135 (from $225).

Jimmy Choo “Batheth” Large Snakeskin-Trimmed Raffia Tote: Wild Card

Too reserved to rock a tiger-print bikini? You’re not alone. I’ll probably reserve the overtly animalistic swimwear for video vixens, but I would consider this huge Jimmy Choo tote as my beach (and pool) bag. Because often what I won’t wear, my bags will – and I thank them for it.Animal-print (it’s a bit mysterious; kind of tiger-snake hybrid) trimmed generously in elaphe snakeskin, which is trimmed in buckles, sounds like too, too much. But look closer: somehow this wild print on raffia gives it sophistication. South Beach-style sophistication. I could see the oversized “Batheth” tote packed with my towel, magazines, iPad, sunscreen, and water bottle – and whatever else I so choose to toss in this “everything but…” bag – lounging next to me poolside at the Delano.A suede lining (beware chlorine and cocktail splashes) with internal pockets means you can organize everything you toss in, and fortunately, that designer-stamped hanging tag is removable – purposeful flair is to be welcomed, unnecessary accoutrements are not. On Net-a-Porter for $875 (was $1,250).Pair with: A casual rayon romper will look beachy, not chichi, as a poolside cover-up. Mikoh‘s strapless and low-drawstring waist ivory onesie will give playful ease to this mega-tote. At Barneys New York for $152.

L’Wren Scott Small Stamped Leather Pouchette: True Blood

Model-turned-stylist-turned-fashion designer (no one makes more slimming or wearable pencil skirt; her zipper detail allows you to adjust it so you can actually walk!) L’Wren Scott can now add handbag designer to her impressive resumé. Dedicated to elegant luxury, she’s brought that along with some rock ‘n’ roll spirit (thanks, Mick!) to this deep red clutch. Sanguine leather looks extra intense when it’s heavily embossed for a dark, shadowy effect, but the clean envelope shape mellows it out and keeps it classic. The result of this stamped floral pattern is a little vampiric, slightly Southwestern, and totally L’Wren Scott. As she is just releasing her first full-size line, more on her bag collection to come! At Barneys New York for $1,730.Pair with: A shoe that’s sleek though a bit off-kilter, such as Fendi‘s mesh platform shoe bootie, pale gray suede, white leather, and flesh-toned mesh on a stacked heel. At Barneys New York for $559 (from $935).

Mark Cross Bags: Past Perfect, Future Classics

UPDATE: Apologies for the error earlier today! Here are the images of the Mark Cross bags!Once touted as the American “Gucci” – bags by the classic leather company were carried by Grace Kelly, their overnight case was given a cameo in Hitchcock’s “Rear Window,” and Liz Taylor famously bought a whopping 70 pieces of luggage for herself and Richard Burton – Mark Cross has just re-launched with a bang. All the while staying true to the brand’s trademark: French and Italian leathers at modern price points in timeless styles.Vibrant colors and confident shapes with unfussy maturity make for instant classics. Plus, scratch-proof stamped and treated leather, in appealing shades of cool Clementine, cheerful teal, and cobalt that’s somehow on the neutral side, will take a beating and beyond. The “Beaumont” chain-strap clutches, the flirtiest of the bunch, in calf and raffia are just begging for a stroll in the sun, while the “Josephine” clutch in mouse gray or stirring wine will look lovely with a cinch-waisted, full-skirted dress – some volume to counter their cleanness. But it’s the Saffiano cross-body flap bag, such soft leather in a rich blue, that’s my favorite – and the one I ordered. Luxurious tradition to be worn with modern easiness, slung across the body, for an ideal blend.Look for their exclusive relaunch at Saks Fifth Avenue, from $465-$765 and for more details, go to Mark Cross website here.

Nancy Gonzalez on Moda Operandi: A Shopping Event as Rare as a Hot Pink Crocodile

Nancy Gonzalez says that she incorporates elements in each and everyone of her bags to “make us smile.” And that she does! Not only is she our favorite Colombian bag designer, now her bags are hitting Asia with a big bang. My friends here covet my chic croc totes and clutches with the as much zeal as when they fawn over my Hermès. You won’t find that surprising when you look at her exuberant new resort collection, which is hitting genius insider site Moda Operandi today in full (a rare event; she almost never sells online)!Inspired by the wildlife and wild colors of her native country, ribbons of crocodile and python have been entwined for a basket-weave texture and python has been fused with flashes of metallic. Strips of skin alternated with Panama straw bring an out-of-this-world bag down to earth, and I’ve never seen more vibrant shades of pink and blue.So if you haven’t applied for Moda Operandi yet, here’s even more motivation. It makes you the buyer – you can choose exactly what you want (like which of Nancy’s 34 new styles), instead of waiting nervously to see what the department stores choose. This is the only way to shop if you want to have the latest and greatest, and now it’s Gonzalez-approved!

Maison Martin Margiela Love: Fashion, Please Meet Function

Usually Margiela is not one to be pragmatic, fashion over function at all cost seems to be the M.O. But someone over there has the same issues and annoyances that I do with wallets because this has function in mind, while definitely NOT at the cost of fashion. The use of animal print here is right on. An ingenious design that is as unique as it is functional, this wallet offers access and organization without fumbling, zipping, snapping, threading or even the need to simply fold over. OK, the change pocket requires a snap but the rest of the wallet is set up like a man’s wallet, simple and open. Cards, cash and change – in and out totally unobstructed. This will also lighten your load, try weighting your wallet, it accounts for half of your bag’s weight! At Net-a-Porter $210Pair with the frame shoulder bag, another perfect fashion meets function new love of mine. It’s a frame that folds flat when worn and completely opens up for full view of the interior. It’s a minimalist magic bag that transforms into a square bin when needed. I must have both and with my new efficiency, I can spend my time doing more shopping! At Saks Fifth Avenue for $995.

Purple is even funkier in oversized ostrich-effect PVC courtesy

While I don’t necessarily advise selecting a wickedly bright bag as an investment purchase, uncommon – and often impractical – colors can be so appealing, if only just to browse. They are youthful, unexpected, and ensure you’ll get noticed even if the rest of your look consists of the most mundane jeans and T-shirt. Balmain Black Leather Zipper Bag

Why hello Balmain, is this the best you could come up with? I had such high expectations of your bags but you disappoint, season after season. I mean exposed and opened zippers do spice up a basic black bag but it’s been done done and done by so many designers that I’m tired just looking at it. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t hate it. I love the trendy punk rock thing as much as the next 80s kid but this looks like something from Forever 21 that should cost about $39.99, not THREE THOUSAND dollars. Some of you will try and argue with me that Balmain is almost like couture (key word is ALMOST) but I’m not buying it. If you do, you’re not fit to carry your wallet and should let me be the trustee of it.Balmain Black Leather Zipper Bag for $3,195

International Sale- Final Reductions

I am still in Asia, which means I’m able to shop the International sale (actually you can, too- just change your country to the UK!). Many designers (including Alaia) are priced lower on the international version of Net-a-porter, probably due to US customs and duties. This makes it very tempting for me to shop! Of course I have that change of season dilemma of, do I buy more bargains? Or buy fall/winter stuff? I can never decide so I usually do both (covering all the bases my friends). The UK site also carries different inventory from the US, which makes it very exciting while I treasure hunt (like the discovery of the Nancy Gonzalez linen crocodile summery tote!).Have you finished your sale shopping? Or are you in the mood for more bargains? Check out the international final sale here!

Anya Hindmarch Huxley Tote: A Vote for a Tassel Tote

You all know how much I love tote bags. I love their simplicity and function, the ease with which I carry one. So here’s another that caught my eye. The Anya Hindmarch “Huxley” fits the bill – it’s simple and roomy. And although I don’t usually like tassels, this stingray-embossed tassel pull at the zipper is not bad. The leather tote features rolled handles, which I do love. But I would never use the detachable canvas strap (unless I was using this as one of my carry-on travel bags, for a serious messenger look). It also sports other goodies, such as metal feet, a pen slot and key hook, and of course, a couple of patch pockets. If I keep finding tote bags I like, pretty soon I’ll be carrying a tote in a tote! On ShopBop for $1,595.Pair: Equally simple and comfortable is a pair of cool orange ballet flats. Jil Sander‘s are a timeless style in a right-on color. On Net-a-Porter for $425.

Salvatore Ferragamo Leopard-Print Pony Hair Tote: Taming the Wildcat

Sometimes the all the elements – color, print, material, hardware, shape, and size – converge in such a way you get a balance that’s sheer perfection. By now you well know I’m a sucker for spots, but lately I’ve moved onto to an even more neutral variation. Gray leopard is officially my new favorite animal print. It’s more subtle and less Vegas, more refined and less kitsch.Salvatore Ferragamo‘s take on colorless leopard is one of the best I’ve seen by far. It’s highbrow without being uptight. By putting the spots under a magnifying glass, the effect is graphic and striking. On deeply touchable pony hair, it’s divine. As a top handle tote with a scaled-down flap, crimped edges, and measured dashes of black leather and gold hardware, I’m finding this bag impossible to resist. And why should I even try? This is the sort of logical investment piece you will never regret, especially when you’re still carrying it years later – because ladylike-cool never goes out of style. At Salvatore Ferragamo for $2,590. Call 1-800-628-8916 for inquiries.Pair with: I’m seeing gray days ahead. And I couldn’t be happier. I plan on indulging my tote’s muted spots with Giuseppe Zanotti‘s razor-sharp gray stiletto booties, with two degrees of platform to keep you grounded. Giuseppe Zanotti Double Platform Bootie, $795.

Emm Kuo Structured Python Messenger: Mixed Messenger

New bag designer Emmaline Ranzman (her Emm Kuo line was launched just a year ago) is a mix master. Taipei-born and raised between New York and Hawaii, her bags are as eclectic as her multi-faceted upbringing, making her a fresh face on the circuit that stands out among the pack.Bag in point, this structured python messenger. The strong, tapered flap makes it far more feminine than a boxy messenger – it almost looks more like a formal handbag. The same goes for the adjustable python-and-chain link blend strap; the snakeskin shoulder patch keeps you comfortable and fabulous. Skin with a slightly pinkish tint adds a touch of girliness, but it’s still totally neutral.Ranzman’s designs are all about “depth and layers,” and it shows in the contrast side paneling. I especially love how the shape of the messenger follows the python’s scale patterns. And the squared-off metal closure? An Emm Kuo signature. Something tells me we’ll be seeing more of these little buckles hanging from the bodices of snobs from the West Coast to East Coast and over in the Pacific Rim. At Intermix for $1,398.Pair with: Dash around town with your Emm Kuo messenger and a very-now Eugenia Kim rabbit-felt hat. It’s a toss up between which is more stylish: the wide-brimmed “Carly” or the “Kurt” fedora. Eugenia Kim Hats, $310-$330.

Balenciaga Tube Clutch: A Bare Necessity

With a clean gold-tone cylinder lock serving as the only detail and singular focal point on this discreet foldover clutch, Balenciaga is showing off a minimal new turn – and they have my blessing! The flap shape, which tapers into a soft V, enhances the lock hardware, letting you know it’s designed to be the shiny centerpiece. So simple and elegant, it makes the motorcycle bags of seasons past look cluttered, almost disheveled. But the brand hasn’t strayed completely from their roots. As with all Balenciagas, this tube comes with a mirror – extra-handy for a clutch, when you’re not carrying your entire cosmetic kit, so you can inconspicuously check your face on the fly. While it’s fun to have a Crayola-wide array of clutches to pick from, if you can only get one, this is the model: neutral black with a shining focus, as versatile as can be. At Barneys New York for $865.Pair with: The beauty of the plain black clutch is that you can go crazy with other accessories. Wear something along the lines of, say Tom Binns‘ “Slap Dash” necklace, a jam-packed bib of Swarovski crystals, some clear and some hand-painted neon yellow. On Net-a-Porter for $1,900.

Gucci Broadway Evening Bag: Virtually Mine

Suddenly, making a purchase based on a website photo seems so passé! Gucci is taking the virtual experience up a notch, with their sensuous new video. I tested out the interactive video – part editorial in motion, part ad, part clickable catalog – for you all, and I’m happy to report: it works great! Shopping via video is the next best thing to being at the boutique. When you have It-girls Abbey Lee Kershaw and Joan Smalls slinking around to show off the goods, I’m pretty much sold.In truth, it’s very helpful to see all the angles of the product before committing to purchase. Like with the studded “Broadway” clutch, a harder take on the classic horse-bit. in Abbey Lee’s hands you get to see what how truly elongated the rectangle-shape is, and the close-up on the lush leather shows off its high quality. Even if you don’t need all the bells and whistles of a dramatic video, at the very least it’s entertaining – and you might pick up a few styling ideas while you choose your new bag.Check out video here. At Gucci for $950.
