Jason Wu Spring 2012 Collection: Graphic Designer
Photo Credit: Style What is the perfect counterpoint to Jason Wu’s high-personality yet suavely subtle Spring collection? To the voluminous asymmetrical hemline skirts (short in the front, long in the back is the look of the moment and the future), very-hot hot pants, ladylike-goes-futuristic flower-petal print (a collaboration with graffiti artist KAWS), flared, bow-cinched dresses and peplum tops? The graphic contrasts of deeply sleek handbags, of course.Wu knows bags and more specifically, he knows skins and how to use them. Heavily saturated and almost painterly blue and green painted python clutches made for snob satisfaction. An oversized flap-front clutch, with chain-strap for a necessary shoulder option, and a smart little shoulder bag in cotton-candy pink made my head dance with fantasies of spring. Rarely is the color pink so sophisticated! However, my favorite of the collection is the most unexpected in the batch: a leather handbag in a photonegative floral print, a frisky match for the patterned clothes. Innovation, creativity, and the permission to not take life too seriously – Wu is showing it all.
