BE & D Taylor Cross Body Bag 30% off

We are all about the cross body bag for summer travels but I have a tendency to over pack mine with water bottles, kindle, toys, etc which takes its toll on my back. The other option is to get one small enough so I am not tempted to stuff my entire closet into it yet large enough to fit my camera, wallet, and iPhone. Be & D Taylor bag is about the size I was thinking of but is it too young for me?! I’d hate to look like one of those moms who are trying to out do their teenagers (you know who you are!) and not that I’d wear this as a fanny pack but knowing that it’s an option is nice! Now that it’s 30% off at Shopbop, I’m seriously tempted. It’s so perfect for my monthlong trip to Asia this summer and when I’m done I can pass it to one of my cousins. The lock reminds me of the Hermes Goodlock clutch and is very chic but it’s the giant studs on the sides that are holding me back… will think about this on my flight home today (barring anymore mishaps. I missed my flight Wednesday night and it was cancelled last night, not that I don’t heart NYC but I really need to get home!). What do you think? BE & D Taylor Cross Body / Belt Bag for $488 $341!

Marc Jacobs Collection Resort 2011

For resort, Marc Jacobs presented a handbag assortment that seemed to hark back to his roots–when his clothes were as sweet as cotton candy (with complementary sorbet hues to boot). My initial attraction was to a collection of totes, day bags and clutches affixed with delightful resin flowers (price range: $795 to $1,595). I particularly loved the flower in a gorgeous jade green shade; they had a wit and whimsy to them without being vulgar. With Jacobs lightly touched upon a Mod moment with a few small bags, it was all about embellishment. The raffia flower collection may come across as a bit strong for some women, but the good news here is that–and the same applies to the resin flowers–the appliqués are fully removable. Perfect to be worn as a brooch! Talk about maximum versatility! The chain strap collection, meanwhile, has a decidedly French savoir-faire to them–the thin chain straps infuse a nice lady-like element, but how practical–not to mention durable–will they be when chock full of belongings?Last but not least was a shell collection that was undoubtedly the most precious of the entire lineup (price range: $1,095 to $1,595). The shells are each adorned with gem-like stones that clearly were not meant for tossing on a banquet. It’s a great nautical-esque accessory that evokes the spirit of resort without overwhelming.

Judith Leiber New Bean Python Clutch

I have a vintage Judith Leiber clutch that I adore– it’s made of supple python skin, with soft pleating that gives it a soft feminine shape, all topped off with a single sparkly crystal clasp. It’s one of my favorite clutches and I’ve always wished Leiber would start making elegant clutches like it again instead of the blinged out crystal eggs/dogs/cats/bats/pigs that are so popular. Apparently my prayers have been answered as the “New Bean” clutches in luscious python are gracing the shelves at Neiman Marcus once again! This color is so perfect for summer– as blue as the Mediterranean sea. A crisp little white dress with strappy sandals and you’re ready for Capri (I’m dying to go, by the way!).Judith Leiber New Bean Python Clutch for $2,195

Totally cool and chic from a new brand started by two best friends. Hmmm, Tina and I are best friends and we love bags….. I love new brands with something new to add to the saturated bag scene. This has a carefree look that’s also very sophisticated for the perfect effortless style that we all want to exude. It has a bit of Alexander Wang cool with a dash of Alaia refinement. The best part though is the price, get it while they are still new to the market because prices go up once they are “discovered”, you know by Bag Snob =) At Saks Fifth Avenue for $495.

Rick Owens Leather shoulder bag

I love the thinking that went on behind this bag. You know how you sling your backpack over one shoulder? This bag is kinda like that, it has one strap off to the side so it sits towards you back when on. It is super functional but not in a frumpy way, it is edgy and innovative. Now you get all the benefits of a backpack or large satchel that’s chic. Perfect for work, throw your extra shoes and maybe a change of clothes to avoid the walk of shame. Just don’t overload it, the off balance might give you scoliosis after extended use. Or just a serious kink in your neck. At Net-A-Porter for $1130.

I’m sorry, what cracker jack box did this fall out of? Or is this an homage to skittles (one of my all time favorite sweet treats by the way)?! Jesus, just when I told a reporter that Givenchy can do no wrong in my book they come out with this beaded crappy mess of a bag. I think the colors are what’s most distracting, I mean throw on some black plastic beads if you must but the mish mash kaleidoscope of color makes it more mariachi than marvelous.Givenchy Beaded Pluto Bag for $2,495 (someone has to pay for the labor to apply those stupid beads!)

Miu Miu Patent-Leather Turn-Lock Bag

The people at Miu Miu don’t care about weight. Between the patent leather and the mega turnlock hardware, this bag is quite hefty. But super fab! This is yet another reason to hit the gym, once you have worked up the strength to carry any bag you want, you won’t have to care about my whining of how heavy bags are anymore. You really do limit your selection if you require feather weight. This has the rare distinction of looking good with the top handle or shoulder strap, which is adjustable to go cross body. The lilac is gorgeous, it’s warm but has a blend of steely gray for Fall wear. The interior is a happy purple – a very nice touch. At Net-a-Porter for $1495.

Thomas Wylde Studded Leather Shoulder Bag

The Veneta is Bottega Veneta’s most classic and signature bag. It is simple, utilitarian but ultimately chic. Some find it to be a bit too plain (even though the woven leather should be enough detail for any bag, it is immaculate and eye candy with the tactical texture) so a seasonal variation on the bag, like this confetti (or Plisse) in the maxi (the size makes it more fashion forward) in bright and happy fuscsia is for those looking for function as well as impact. You take texture and layer texture on top of it then make it PINK and what you get is fireworks! I love bringing color to my Fall wardrobe, I mean, isn’t the weather dreary enough? Bright bright bright is what we need. I love this bag so much, I just wish it wasn’t $3450 but if you see the craftsmanship to make this happen, you will appreciate it even more. At Bottega Veneta online.

So, I guess we’re not done with studs just yet. But this one is different in that it is subtle and very feminine. I love the textured whisper gray, such an amazing color for fall (for everything not just bags!) and that line of varied size studs down the center looks like it is supposed to be there instead of just being slapped on at the last minute because studs are in. The signature Thomas Wylde skulls danging down also work seamlessly in with the overall design. The shape is totally utilitarian making this less specific (as in, only when you are in rocker garb) and more everyday. Flirty dress, sweater and jeans, business setting and wild night out – it’s that versatile. At Net-a-Porter for $1960 (yes, I do find this a bit much but you will get much wear out of this).

Marc Jacobs Garbo Bag

CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR BAG WINNER – MARTA D., WASHINGTON D.C.Beat the July heat with two of our favorite Botkier bags from Fall 2010! We are giving away two rocker chick worthy bags to ONE lucky winner: The Ava hobo in black – $595 and the Sofia hobo in silver powder -$575. With these two bags you’ll be set for the Fall season! To Win: Simply sign up for our newsletter here. Yes, it’s that easy! Special thanks to Botkier for this amazing month of giveaways! Check out our Shoesnob.com giveaway: Winner will choose a pair of $650 Botkier Fall 2010 shoes!

Oh how I LOVE this lady-like trend (thanks to the popularity of the best show on TV, Mad Men) and I love that Marc is going back to the simpler days of clean lines and just good basic everyday bags that survive long past the trend. After a week on vacation it is so exciting to come back to something that brings back all the passion I had for bags growing up. The proportions of the bag with the little top handle is as precise as it is chic. The lock may be overdone but here, it somehow manages to look vintage and fresh at the same time. This is such a great alternative to the clutch for evenings and should be pushed to the edge with a funkier look, don’t go for the obvious fitted dress and pearls (actually, unless you’re trying to impress your grandmother, never go for that look!). At Barneys New York for $1595.

Alexander Wang ‘Sydney’ Rucksack with Ribbon Tie

In hindsight I can’t believe I didn’t get the Alexander McQueen Valentine Skull Clutch as soon as I laid eyes on the $539 price tag (down from $1,350). This is a classic McQueen clutch that will only go up in value and it’s surprising that it was even marked down. It took two fashionable women however (thank you Keren Eldad and Karen Robinovitz!), to convince me that I had to have it. I was initially weary about the red color (blood red + skull = too much, I worried), but really red is like black, white, or brown and goes with almost anything. Even though the clutch is on the small side, I’m incredibly happy with my purchase – not to mention feeling like a mighty smart shopper after noticing a red clutch, similar to the this one, but not as nice since it doesn’t have the red crystal details, selling at Saks for $1,190.

It’s all about the backpack now, as easily predicted but don’t return to the 90′s Prada nylon look, it really about fashion bags turned into a backpack. As the leader of all bag trends these days, Alexander Wang has perfected this look with this Sydney “rucksack” in grey tweed with a scarf length satin ribbon tie. You definitely don’t look like you are on your way to school here, this will go with the most put together of looks including certain non-cocktail-y dresses. Of course, the easiest way to go is with jeans and a great military boot! A black velvet version is available at Shopbop for $775, the light grey felt shown here (LOVE this fabrication!!) is at Alexander Wang Online for $875.

Gucci Opens New Digital Flagship: Gucci.com

A new luxury digital flagship store has debuted at Gucci.com following an 18 month renovation under the direction of brand creative director Frida Giannini. Visitors to the new site travel online through the experience of a physical Gucci retail store, where products are displayed against a backdrop of gold, light beige, rosewood and other sophisticated materials, adding a sense of three-dimensional richness to the site set against contextual video and photography narrating the stories behind the products.A guiding philosophy of the new format, which is also iPad friendly, is the horizontal navigation–a defining feature first introduced by gucci.com that displays all available products on one page. As with other flagship store openings Frida Giannini has designed an exclusive collection of accessories in celebration, which in thus case are only available for purchase online. In the digital flagship, the “World of Gucci” brings the brand to life through five different areas: Gucci Forever, which delves into every aspect of Gucci’s 90 year history; Gucci Now, which updates visitors on news, events and fashion shows; Think Forever, which spotlights artistic and environmental initiatives; Act Now, which highlights philanthropic efforts; and Gucci Connect, which includes distributed digital content.

Rebecca Minkoff Zipper Diaper Bag

The awesome thing about January Jones is that she doesn’t work with a stylist, so what she wears is a true reflexion of her taste (love it or hate it). She’s been photographed a number of times sporting Prada’s Large Frame Top Tote in black ($2,550; or you can get it in tan for $1,960 here), and I’m a big fan! It’s got a little bit of a briefcase/doctor bag feel to it, but not as pronounced as with Prada’s Saffiano & Tessuto Tote. The top handle also looks like it would be comfy to tote around and there are a number exterior and interior pockets for easy organization. It’s the gold detailing under the handles that I like best however – simple and chic! What do you think about January Jones’ Prada tote?

I’m almost insulted by the lack of good diaper bags out there– just because we have diapers to change and are running on 3 hours ofsleep a night it doesn’t mean we’ve lost our sense of style! Our readers are constantly asking us to suggest a hip and cool diaper bag but we’ve never been able to find one (until now). Of course it took Rebecca Minkoff to come out with a diaper bag that even urban chic moms can tote with pride. Not only is this a trendy and fun diaper bag, it’s also very functional. Aside from the obvious (spill proof nylon, diaper changing pad, and multiple pockets for bottles, diapers, etc) her signature fringe details that will come in handy when the baby is fussy and wants to pull on something (my son loved pulling on things, they have actual toys that serve this sole purpose). Reed Krakoff Laced Cadet Leather Shoulder Bag

If you’re still wondering who Reed Krakoff is and why the fashion world is buzzing about him I can only tell you this: his bags have 65% of market share worldwide. Yup, he’s the Creative Director of Coach! But don’t confuse Reed’s namesake collection with what you’re used to from Coach. No logos nor canvas, what you’ll get is luxe leathers and deceptively simple designs. My favorite of the season is the Laced Cadet shoulder bag, at first glance you think it’s just another black tote. Well, look closer and you’ll see incredible details on the handle and throughout the bag (side hand stitching, gun metal hardware and subtle designer tag)– details that a true bag snob will appreciate. Best part is Reed is keeping prices fairly reasonable. Grab one quickly.Reed Krakoff Laced Cadet Leather Shoulder Bag at Net-a-porter.com – $990

The Cleobella Mexicana Clutch that Emmy Rossum was spotted in isn’t my personal style. I’ve never been one to go for cut-out detailing when it comes to handbags, at least not of the ornate kind. I can however appreciate the work and detail that went into this handcrafted piece and if this style is up your alley, it’s hard to argue with the $160 price tag! The clutch comes in a slew of colors and is in line with the Cleobella aesthetic, which has been embraced by celebs from Fergie to Jessica Alba. Check-out and shop the collection here!

Be & D Foundry Bag

It’s clear that Marc Jacobs is back in a festive mood. Fall’s somber silhouettes, shown against a cardboard backdrop and accessorized with practical day bags that translated to a chic day at the office, have been officially replaced by seventies glamour for spring. The colors! The scaled-down shapes! The emphasis on evening! Presented to the tunes of Vivaldi strings, they worked as a cumulative whole. The palette of colors was absolutely delicious; hibiscus pink, tangerine and mauve cast in exotics, shiny leather and suede all screamed party on the beach in Rio! While frivolity clearly existed in the details of the garments, they weren’t forgotten about with the bags either: the evening clutches all boasted statement-making embellished closures while the day bags, in bright pops of neon, featured vintage-inspired clasps of heft. While I’m sure there are day options that’ll be sold in stores, it’s nice to know Marc is singing an altogether different, and much more festive, tune!

I met up with the very cool girls of Shopbop.com this week and one of them (Morgan, the Style Director) was sporting the latest from Be & D– the Foundry bag. Talk about a drool inducing bag– it was all I could do not to rip it from her shoulders! Luckily she felt my bag envy and let me play with it for a bit during our meeting. There are so many great details in the bag that I don’t even know where to start! The chain is convertible from a two strap to a single long messenger strap and the bag is lightweight, and functional with patch pockets, whip stitching and subtle button tabs. The chic olive color is also an amazing neutral that we all must have in our wardrobe! Hurry because there is only ONE left! (Guess who got the other one?!)BE & D Foundry Bag at Shopbop.com for $945Seriously, how cool are these girls? Left: Kate, Fashion Director of Shopbop.com Right: Morgan, Style Director

Frugal Snob: Kooba Audrey and Billie

There are only a handful of brands who make snob worthy bags under $500 and Kooba is one of them. The bags are trendy, fun and never a huge commitment so you can get a new one each season without the usual guilt! This fall, the Audrey bag in Berry with leather and suede is the must have from the brand.Yummy color aside, the suede panel details add interest and lushness to the multi-pocket hobo– a look that Kooba is known for. Everything you see on the bag serves both form and function so don’t expect unnecessary frills or thrills– Kooba just makes good bags to use for our daily lives and who can fault the for that?!Kooba Audrey for $495 here. The Audrey in black is a good basic but seriously, how many black totes do you have? Go count them before answering me. Go for the Berry color, you won’t regret it.The Billie Shoulder bag has a single shoulder strap and two outside zipper pockets with goldtone hardware accents. A most affordable tote at $295.Kooba Billie for $295

Jil Sander Spring 2011 Bags

I thought the Ava bag we gave away in black was pretty awesome but then I happened upon the distressed metallic version and can’t decide which one I like better. Both are equally eye catching and though the black leather shows off the chain detail better, the metallic has a glitzy appeal that I’m loving for fall. Just imagine it with your new winter palette, all the somber black/plum/chocolate hues will need a bold bag to brighten up the mood! Botkier Metallic Ava Shoulder Bag for $445

It wasn’t just the proportions of his spring collection that Raf Simons played with at Jil Sander. The totes in the collection were, get this, based on ordinary, run-of-the-mill plastic grocery bags that, while we’ve certainly seen done over the years, seemed fresh and new under Simons’ watch. At quick glance they look like plastic; a closer look reveals them actually be leather and vinyl. A novel idea, yes, but how practical can a shapeless–and transparent–sac be? We’ll see come spring, as the company plans to produce these totes but will add a small leather strap to loop through the handles so that they can be worn as a shoulder bag. Would you invest in such a piece? Or is this a DIY project in the making?

Longchamp Gatsby Luxe Shoulder Bag

Understated elegance has been redefined. Utilitarian indulgent chic may sound like an oxymoron but as is evident here, it can be a harmony of perfection. This is not your typical sack-y hobo, there is a wide gusset to maintain its form. I like the combination of smooth with the dotted quill skin, instead of looking like they’re cheaping out on us, it gives an organic look that is soothing to the eye – a big bag with allover dots may sound decadent but it starts to look like a big blur – here your eyes are given a break to appreciate the texture more. The bow speaks to our sweet girly side and how can you say no to that? This Dove Grey Ostrich Hobo is $2600.

Embrace your animal instincts! Like I am embracing this Longchamp Gatsby, the bag itself is perfection with the simple flap design and uber cool hardware, but add the jaguar print and you are talking about sheer lust. This is printed on super soft lambskin so you don’t get the bright clean print on pony or nylon but the feel is divine and the longevity will take you through decades of animal print frenzy. The interior has a coordinating jaguar print polyester lining. The shoulder strap has great chain detail and a comfortable leather pad, but notice that asymmetric chain on the strap – it’s longer in the back where the strap has more exposure. I love the attention to detail! At Saks Fifth Avenue for $898.

Stella McCartney Embossed Faux-Leather Saddle Bag

The Ketu GM Messenger is a sophisticated example of utilitarian chic from Lanvin. It’s been so much fun to watch the line evolve in the last few years– from the early days of the Hero, the Kansas, to the recent crowd pleasing Oulala, Lanvin never fails to delight bag snobs season after season. This fall, it’s all about the Ketu (GM is 15″ x 11″) leather messenger from Lanvin. It’s polished and refined yet still edgy with a few simple studded hardware details on the strap. Zippered top and zippered outer pocket ensures nothing will fall out– the perfect bag for a city dweller! Lanvin Ketu GM Messenger $2,245.00

I am working my butt of trying to get rid of saddle bags at the gym but I am coveting one that can come off much easier =) This is an easy chic bag like the PS1, throw it on with everything and you’ll be loving the convenience while looking absolutely fab. But you will also love that it’s super lightweight. The two flaps are ingenious, you’re able to access your bag without having to open the whole thing, the bag is shallow enough to find what you need with just one side up. The straps come off so you can use this as a clutch but don’t, this definitely should stay a shoulder bag. The shiny green patent leather strap is an amazing contrast against the textured faux leather. At Net-a-Porter for $1045.

Jerome Dreyfuss Henri Bag

I am usually an advocate for the smaller bag designers, I mean Gucci can take it if we rip on one of their bags but the upstart bag designers struggle to make their place in the bag world and we like to support them. However, there are times that I must (politely) point out the obvious and give constructive criticism. This is such a time. Jerome Dreyfuss as a whole show promise but this mish mash of materials is lost on me. I like the shape and the crocodile strap is even interesting but dalmation print ponyhair, ostrich, AND gold python?! Add the chain, exposed zipper trim and contrasting colors and you have too much for one bag to handle. I would have liked to see this made entirely of one skin with a single contrast crocodile strap. What about you? Are you into this buffet? Jerome Dreyfuss Henri Bag for $1,195

Balenciaga Daim Alphabet Tote: This bag is brought

I don’t know what other people think about bags with writing all over them, but I somehow missed the bandwagon for this trend.I’m not sure why designers have thought, “Yes, let’s put letters and cartoon-ish looking things on an expensive bag then try to sell them to people over the age of 12. Yes, that’s a great idea.”I do not understand this phenomenon. Let’s say, for argument’s sake, I am going on a trip and I want a bag that’s crazy and different that shows I’m in the fun, travel, let my hair down and make out with a rando from Greece kind of mood (not based on actual events*). Given the circumstance, I would still not pick up this alphabet cluster of a bag and say, “Perfect, now the world will know I am here for sex, drugs and rock and roll. Also, I know my ABC’s.”Don’t get me wrong, Balenciaga does a whole lot in the “yes” department. But unless you plan on gifting this to your annoying niece who keeps asking you “what comes after d,” I say slob all the way.If you’d like to brush up on your letters, you can pick up the Balenciaga Daim Alphabet Tote at Barneys for $1,795.00

Donna Karan Anniversary Small Pouch

My my my how time flies when we’re giving bags away. It’s Day 5 my friends and we have a See by Chloe bucket style shoulder bag to give you. Hopefully you know the drill by now. Don’t forget to leave a comment why you need to win this. I’m not promising anything but… bonus points Go enter to win here!Don’t forget to follow Bagsnob and Shopbop on Twitter for daily updates on the giveaway!

With all this heat in Texas in November, I’ve been wanting nothing more than a fluffy sweater and a trip to Aspen (or I’d even settle for a 70 degree Texas). I am ready for fall, and so is every brand. When perusing the Donna Karan website you are greeted with images of lovely models in bouclé sweaters, but this isn’t about sweaters. Of course no online shopping trip is complete until you browse (read: pick which you’re going to buy) the handbags. Much to my surprise I was blessed with the Donna Karan Anniversary Small Pouch. This bag is looks just as cozy as the Cozies you will find over at DKNY. (Was that cheesy? Oh well.) This sheared lambskin bag has gunmetal toned studded straps to add some sass. A long strap will keep your hands free while doing important things (read: shopping). This bag is equal parts crazy and glamorous. It’s something we haven’t seen around and I definitely appreciate that. Plus, the color? I melt. (Seriously, I’m melting. It’s so hot here!) Snag yours atDonna Karanfor $1,295.

Jennifer Garner in Marcello de Cartier Hobo Bag

Congratulations to the winners of the Tory Burch October Giveaway!CARSON WINNER: Katy M., San Diego, CADAYTON WINNER: Katrina V., Houston, TXThank you again to Tory Burch for supporting Bag Snob in sponsoring this fabulous giveaway!

When I first saw this bag at the Cartier showroom, I thought it was a chic and terribly understated bag that would be most at home on the shoulder while running errands. Well, voila! None other than Jennifer Garner, herself no stranger to Cartier’s sumptuous leathergoods, was spotted toting the brand new Marcello de Cartier hobo bag (it was released November 1). Garner’s version is in shiny bronze calfskin–a perfect color to match everything from jeans and a black blazer (as seen here) to, dare I say, workout clothes straight from the trainer. It’s the ideal size to fit all your daily essentials (including that tall water bottle), while the structured top keeps everything firmly in place. Admittedly, it’s not the most eye-catching of bags in the schoolyard, but it’s designed for the decidedly anti-flashy actress or mommy set that prefers quality over glam quotient. Fortunately, the two merge beautifully when it comes to the jewels.$1,600, available at Cartier boutiques

Oscar de la Renta Supports Lupus LA

Oscar de la Renta has a very specific clientele, the girl who no longer has a need for basic boring black or metallic clutches – every clutch needs to be stand out unique. The Suzani Embroidered clutch fits the bill and then some, the eclectic mix of media on this clutch can inspire even the most mundane of outfits to be a fashion statement that will not easily be forgotten. I have such friends and when I showed this clutch to them, they all immediately started rambling off all the ways it can be worn – on vacation with a flouncy sundress, with jeans and a tee shirt, her impossible to coordinate burnt sienna dress, etc. The Oscar de la Renta retail director knew what he was doing when he donated this clutch for the Hollywood Bag Ladies Luncheon, he is well versed with well heeled women =) This stunning clutch will be a hot item at the silent auction, I can’t wait to see how many bumps and bruised this causes as women fight tooth and nail for it. From the current collection at Oscar de la Renta for $1150.Thank you Oscar de la Renta for you generous support of Lupus LA!!

Olympia Le-Tan Appliqué ‘Letter’ Box Clutch

A clutch does not have to be covered in sequins & crystals or be in the shape of a monkey to be holiday party worthy– I adore the look of distressed metallic leather juxtaposed with a fancy dress. Burnished gold perforated leather looks industrial and trendy– this will bring a downtown edge to anything you wear. Jimmy Choo has fabulous clutches this season for great prices (am I jaded to think $550 is reasonable for a clutch?!). Jimmy Choo Ubai Metallic Leather Clutch for $550.

I must be missing something because as much as I love novelty clutches I do not understand why this one is so expensive. It is made of fabric with felt applique, so cost of materials = $20. It is incredibly cute and I would love to pretend I’m well read (no time) and have a beautifully library of old books (and when I do have time, I have a Kindle) but at $1400 I would rather buy just about every other clutch in that price range than this one. She has a huge following and each clutch is a collector’s item. They are “handmade with love in France” and the limited issue of each are the reasons for the price but apparently, I just don’t have the love of books Olympia Le-Tan and her fans do. She could do it in leather, no? Some old books are leather bound and quite beautiful. At Browns Fashion.

Gucci Madison Ostrich Medium Tote

Gucci does exotic right. I am not a Gucci fan but when it comes to skins they know well enough to leave off the dingle dangles and keep things simple. This ostrich tote is gorgeous with unassuming details like the tabs and hardware free handles. You would not mistaken this for any other designer with the conspicuous Gucci tag (but not obnoxious) but it’s just amazing skin and incredible quality shining above all else. I suppose without a skin, that kind of minimalist aesthetic would be too subtle and not exactly the voice of this glamour house. I just wish there was no seam at the bottom but this is a good size bag at 19″ by 12″ so using one piece of skin would drive the price higher than the already stratospheric $3900. At Saks Fifth Avenue.

Trussardi 1911 Red Camo Leather Duffle Bag

Despite its high prices, I’ve long admired the leathergoods offerings from Trussardi 1911. Milan Vukmirovkic, the Italian label’s multi-talented creative director, has just launched a “Red Camo by Trussardi 1911″ collection available exclusively at the boutique e-shop. At first glance, all the pieces are extremely practical and masculine–but it’s the leather travel bag in the signature camouflage print that I was most drawn to. For a new twist, Vukmirovkic added bright red contrast details in vibrant red leather for what can only be described as a striking visual effect. The overall collection is comprised of 13 accessories: wallets, toiletry case, shoulder bag, gym bag and trolley. There are even covers for the Blackberry, iPhone, iPad and iPod. For those wanting a more rugged feel, opt for the duffle with fabric handles that can double as a gym bag (it runs $1,690).$2,000, available exclusively

The Villador Boy Satchel is your perfect in between bag. It is sort-of a clutch but can also be a shoulder bag. This means it is a Slutch. This slutch can be worn by day while shopping for lemons at the nearest farmers market while walking your dog Bubbles, or by night after you have used said lemons in a vodka wine spritzer and now you feel like dancing till dawn.I enjoy this bag. It is versatile, not huge, but big enough for the essentials. It also has the essential inner little zipper pocket that is imperative if you are going to wear this out anywhere because it keeps your credit cards and ID safely out of the hands of pick-pocket-ors, muggers, or your bartender after you dump your bag on the floor looking for your cell phone to call for a ride home because, turns out, vodka and wine are a deadly combination. To sum up- the bag is cute, you will get a lot of use out of it, the bow is sweet as can be  and you can swipe it at Luisaviaroma for $897.60

Have you ever thought, “Man oh man I really need a shiny bag that is in the form of a gigantic tote!” But then you went to the store and all of them were just too, well, too boring? I mean, they’re all just black and nothing sets them apart! And then, if you were to get a boring black one, how are people supposed to know what brand it is?!Fear not my good friends; See by Chloe has your solution. Not only can you get a massive shiny bag, but people will not be left wondering who in the world made it, because, get this: it says on the bag!Okay, I can’t do it. I can’t go any longer pretending this is okay. First, it’s a shiny bag, but it’s not patent leather, it’s “super-shiny nylon.” Then, instead of a subtle “See by Chloe” tag, it says “SEE BY CHLOE” in humongous letters with a leopard print background. How is this okay? Someone tell me. I need to know. If you feel the need to tell, I mean scream, the brand name of your fugly bag, go ahead and pick you up one of these little beauties for $195. Yuck.SEE CHLOE AT Saks Fifth Avenue

Reed Krakoff Gym Bag

Something tells me Reed Krakoff didn’t really intend for this bag to be used to cart around your smelly sneakers and sweaty shorts. This “gym” bag is certainly luxe utilitarian; the all-leather body with python handle strap closure is modern while the detachable strap makes it practical. I think Reed has an incredible eye for style and design; I would swear he was an architect if I didn’t know any better. This is a great work bag for the woman who needs plenty of room and none of the extraneous muss or fuss. At quick glance, however, I think the strap anchors look cheap. They’re thin, made of simple metal and just look like something you’d find at Macy’s. Granted, this bag is under $800, so I guess you get what you pay for–especially at Reed Krakoff. But remember the days when $790 was A LOT to spend on a bag? Oh how times have changed.$790, available at Reed Krakoff, 831 Madison Ave.

MaxMara Olimpia Bag

Designed with the hallmarks of the MaxMara woman in mind–character, independence and passion for design–the Spring 2011 key bag, dubbed the Olimpia, is an elegant Boston bag minimalist shape formulated to be the holdall for a career woman on the move. Named after a historic theatre in Paris, the Olimpia is constructed of supple calfskin, and available in four colors (ecru, tan, red and navy/white), it features double handles, a shoulder strap and saddlery details. It also has what I refer to as nifty fan-shaped corners made of stitched leather. Personally, I like the bag in the darker colors; the large rectangular outline on the sides is less conspicuous and the MaxMara logo becomes discreet. MaxMara, like Akris, Loro Piana and Brunello Cucinelli, emphasizes subtle luxury–and that mantra carries across all categories. Buy this bag if you’re looking for a simple, well constructed handbag with no fuss, flash or muss. At under $1,000, it’s also price friendly for those who value quality over It-bag wannabes.$995, available at MaxMara boutiques

Bottega Veneta Milk Assenzio Empire Intreccio Sfumato Rombi Aquilone Bag

I didn’t think I would like this bag. I passed over it at first, not bothering to notice itssnake-embossed supple leather or the curb-chain accents that compliment the dark brown color in a delicate way. I didn’t notice the little metal feet to make this soft number stand tall. This bag is like the hidden cashmere cardigan at the back of your closet. It may blend in with all the other items, but when fished out of the darkness, it is a go to wear for many occasions and always looks great. This diva in hiding would really be perfect for an everyday casual wear bag. It’s large enough to carry your essentials but not too big to cramp your style. Usually, I’m not a chain girl, but these links are small and subtle enough to get my vote.$898.00

Slouchy and soft, this Bottega Veneta sfumato rombi bag is the perfect addition to your spring/summer wardrobes. Doesn’t it just make you long for the beach and picnics in the park? The wide, roomy bottom sure has enough space to accommodate even the busiest of days–the interior is bisected into two large compartments–while the contoured shape of the bag ensures comfort as it sits by your side. The braided handle is a nice touch–the soft grip won’t break your back. It’s nice to see Tomas Maier break from Bottega’s traditional intrecciato all-over weave in favor of a more subtle trim intersecting the bag in a geometric pattern. With its soft color palette, it’s sure to match all your outfits come spring.$3,300

Céline Luggage Phantom Tote

I’ve died and gone to bag heaven. Spotted at this week’s Céline pre-fall appointment was this stunning new version of Phoebe Philo’s instant classic Luggage tote. Meet the “Luggage Phantom”–it boasts an expanded wide base (perfect for travel) and an all-new construction. The face of the bag–in this case, black stamped faux crocodile–is constructed of one whole skin instead of multiple pieces stitched together. Not to fret, though, as the quintessential layered-and-sewn look from the original bag you’ve grown to love and covet is still there; the bag, with its new construction, is that much lighter as a daily carry-all. What also makes Phantom new are side straps that can be tied or buckled to make the bag less open. It’s the perfect day to weekend-at-the-beach bag. I’m already on the wait list.$2,990.
